Getting Married in Cyprus - Legal Requirements |
|
|
Getting Married in Cyprus is very easy. It is fully legal and recognised throughout the world. Your marriage certificate will be issued in English. You must meet all the legal requirements. You must be resident in Cyprus for at least 3 working days, not including weekends, public holidays or the day of your arrival. You need a valid 10 year passport that is not due to expire within 6 months. Photocopies will be required of your passport details and the originals will need to be seen. We will go through this with you, before you arrive so don’t worry. Your 2 witnesses will need copies of their passports and the originals will need to be seen. You must each have a single status declaration which confirms that you are single and free to marry. This needs to be signed and stamped by a Notary (someone from your firm of solicitors should be able to do this for you) and be dated no earlier than 3 months before your wedding date. If in any doubt contact your Embassy who will give you all the information you require. The bride and groom must provide a full birth certificate and a copy. Short versions will not be accepted. Adoption certificate if either the bride or groom is adopted and copies. Proof of name change by deed poll must be provided with one copy. This needs to be signed and stamped by your solicitor. You must bring your decree absolute if you are a divorcee, with one copy. If Catholic, bring the marriage annulment with one copy.
